Tablet Presentation
Each uncoated Tablet Contains:
Cefixime Trihydrate IP
Eq. to Anhydrous Cefixime 200 mg
Sulbactam Sodium USP 150 mg
This composition contains cefixime and sulbactam offers greater benefit together because cefixime prevents the formation of essential covering over the bacteria and sulbactam inhibits beta lactamase enzyme because it inhibits the cefixime activity.
Indications
- Urinary tract infection
- Acute bronchitis
- Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
- In otitis media
About Composition
Cefixime-
It is third generation antibiotic and belongs to the class of cephalosporin
These are used when some people are resistance to penicillin
It has bactericidal mechanism of action.
Sulbactam-
It belongs to the class of beta lactamase inhibitor. it prevents the enzymatic action of beta lactamase which causes reduction in activity of antibiotic.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds to the penicillin binding proteins which is present inside the bacterial cell wall and causes the inhibition of the synthesis of bacterial wall. It mediated the cell wall lysis by generating autolytic enzyme i.e. autolysin.
Sulbactam irreversibly bind to beta lactamase and inhibits its action
Pharmacokinetics
Cefixime-
It is orally absorbed
It is 65% bound to serum proteins
It is metabolized in the liver
It is excreted via urine
Sulbactam-
It is orally absorbed
It is 38% bound to serum proteins
It is excreted unchanged in the urine
